Aradeo and sourranding

Aradeo is a cheerful town of just 10,000 inhabitants located 27 km southwest of Lecce and only a few km from others interesting center of Salento like Galatina, Nardò, Gallipoli and Otranto and covers an area of 8.51 kmq
The term Aradeo from the Ara-Latin, meaning "Altar of God." Protector is S. Bishop Nicholas of Myra.
The emblem of the town represents an altar covered with a tablecloth, with a chalice, the host and two lit candles.
Symbolically signify the altar, the paradise of the faithful on earth, the glass is the religion and the Christian life, the candelabra, the splendor of holiness. According to recent studies by Professor. Pisano, this town of greek-Byzantine origin, had its origins in sec. IX; the civic emblem is born later.
The ancient name of the country was Charadreon, a term that means "a very rich source of fresh water."
In fact, territory as yet there is the presence of numerous wells.
From Charadreon came Haradreon then, transformed into Aradeon and then Aradeo.
Professor Pisano has also found and translated two of the scrolls in 1149, which reveal the origin of the greek-Byzantine city.
In fact, they are given Greek names of churches and priests, among them the famous poet of dros Aradeo, whose manuscripts have been found in Paris and recently released.
